If you’ve ever wondered about the goodness of God, I’ve got some good news for you today.
Melanie Redd, my dear friend and Christian writer, is here to share not just one but six promises from God that we can take to the bank.
Melanie is the founder of the online ministry, Ministry of Hope and that name is not by mistake. She is one of the most encouraging women I know both online and otherwise. I promise that after you read this post you will walk away feeling more hopeful than at the start.
Melanie’s post closes out our #SummerSizzleBlogHop and what better way than to focus on the promises of God’s goodness.
The SummerSizzleBlogHop featured the best writing of nine Christian bloggers throughout June and July. It was my honor to host these dear friends and share their faith-filled words with you. If you missed any, you can catch them all here.
And now, here you have Melanie, with reminders of the goodness of God. May you be blessed.
6 Promises of the Goodness of God
by Melanie Redd
There aren’t many guarantees in life.
According to Benjamin Franklin, “In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”
However, I’d like to assert today that we can rely completely on the promises in the Bible.
Jesus Himself told His disciples, “Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.”
In Isaiah 40:8, we are told, “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
We can trust the Bible — God’s word to us.
We can completely rely on and depend on the promises of God.
His words are guaranteed — as sure as death and taxes. And, He promises to take care of us.
Maybe you don’t feel like He is taking care of you today.
Maybe you aren’t certain of His goodness in your life.
Possibly you are doubting Him right now?
May I encourage you today?
Here are 6 promises of the goodness of God in your life:
The Goodness of God — Promise #1:
His Mercies Never END – they are new every single morning!
As I opened my Bible to do my daily word study this morning, this little phrase was listed next: “His compassions fail not.”
I turned to look at this familiar passage in Lamentations 3, focusing only on that one little phrase.
I looked it up in several translations:
Because His tender compassions never fail (AMP)
Certainly, God’s compassion isn’t through (CEV)
The Lord’s faithful love never ends (ERV)
His mercies never come to an end (RSV)
This is great news!
God’s love, compassion, faithfulness, and grace NEVER come to an end! No matter how bad we feel, how much we blow it, or how hard life gets – God is ever merciful and compassionate with us!
“His mercies never come to an end!”
I am so grateful, aren’t you?
The Goodness of God — Promise #2:
God guarantees to COMPLETE the work that He has started in your life!
When our children were little, they watched the most wonderful music videos by a Christian artist named Steve Green. One of the songs that we loved proclaimed these words: “He who began a good work in you… will be faithful to complete it in you.”
The song was based on Philippians 1:6, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
It’s true!! God is FAITHFUL to complete the work that He started in us.
It’s up to Him, not us, to complete the work. I love knowing this: you and I can line up our lives with God and allow Him to work out the plans that He has for us!
“Our job is obedience. God’s job is everything else,” Lisa TerKeurst.
What does He want to complete in our lives today?
Will we let Him?
The Goodness of God — Promise #3:
He guarantees to make us WHOLE and COMPLETE!
I’m one of those geeky people who likes to study the Bible with a dictionary close at hand.
This verse from Colossians says, “When you have Christ, you are COMPLETE.”
If you were to look up “COMPLETE” in the dictionary…
“….having all parts or elements; lacking nothing; whole; entire; full: a complete set of Mark Twain’s writings.” (dictionary.com)
Synonyms for COMPLETE include words like entire, full, hook line & sinker, the whole enchilada, and the whole nine yards. (thesaurus.com)
In other words: When we are IN Jesus Christ, we are unabridged, uncut, undiminished, unimpaired, undivided, and completely whole and full.
We lack nothing in Him.
He completely completes us.
That’s some awesome news!
The Goodness of God — Promise #4:
God guarantees NEVER to leave us or forsake us!
This is one of the sweetest promises in all of the Bible!
God Himself promises to NEVER leave us nor forsake us!
I love how the Amplified Bible reads:
Let your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the love of money [shun greed—be financially ethical], being content with what you have; for He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!” (Hebrews 13:5)
The Goodness of God — Promise #5:
God guarantees to be our CONFIDENCE!
Feeling unsettled? Insecure? Uncertain?
Sometimes we all lose confidence in ourselves and in others. That’s a great time to remember that our confidence is ultimately in the Lord.
He is our Safe Place, our Shelter, our Strong Tower, and our Refuge.
Proverbs 3:25-26 in the NLT says,
You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, for the Lord is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.”
Praying that we will look to Him today for security and confidence.
The Goodness of God — Promise #6:
God guarantees that in all things we are MORE THAN CONQUERORS through Christ Jesus!
No matter where we are or what we are going through…
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:37, NKJV
The Message Bible puts it this way:
So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us.” Romans 8:31-34 MSG
Hold onto this promise from God as you face whatever comes your way!
How about you?
Which of these promises of the goodness of God are you taking with you today? Tell us in the comments.

In my mind, I hear God telling me over and over, “You lack nothing.” I am already complete. My favorite quote of this whole thing “‘Our job is obedience. God’s job is everything else,’ Lisa TerKeurst.” This ties into my first point. If I am complete, then I lack nothing, which means I only have one job – obedience. Everything else is up to God. It’s inky when I try to take over His job that I find myself incomplete and lacking. Love it💕 Love it all.

I’m so glad this spoke to you, Brittany. We would do best to stick to the one thing God calls us to do, right? Instead, I often find myself trying to play God, when clearly I’m soooo far that it’s laughable. Yep, I think He has a good laugh too. 🙂
Love you friend! Blessings.
