This doesn’t happen very often.
I don’t usually write a post on a Monday but more importantly, February 29th doesn’t happen very often either!
So what does that mean?
Well for me, it’s a good excuse to thank God and make this day count. It’s a reason to celebrate!
You know sometimes how you look forward and wait expectantly for something? In your mind you have it all figured out. You know how all the details will play out. You’re like a little kid waiting for Christmas.
I was like that a few years ago when I was hoping and expecting my then boyfriend, to propose. I knew in my mind (thanks to the whispers of a few close friends) that he was going to pop the question. It was nearing Christmas and I figured that would be a good time. Or maybe even New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. But why wait for so long. There was even an event in between those dates that would be a good time for him to ask.
But he chose neither of those.
He chose a simple, ordinary day that changed my life forever.
Today, dear friends, is another ordinary day. Yet, it’s an ordinary day that’s like no other.
It’s what my friend, Deb Wolf at Counting My Blessings calls a bonus day. And for good reason. Deb is thankful for every extra day she gets to spend with her amazing husband. She’s written a beautiful post about it that you can read here. It was so good that it inspired me to write this.
My sister calls it Leap Day. She’s using it to put some spark back into her school day.
I call it ‘No Ordinary Day’.
What do you call it?
Perhaps the bigger question is, what will you do with today?
How will you spend this day that is like no other?
The Bible gives us a hint with this passage.
Blessed are the people who know the passwords of praise,
who shout on parade in the bright presence of God.
Delighted, they dance all day long; they know
who you are, what you do—they can’t keep it quiet!
Your vibrant beauty has gotten inside us—
you’ve been so good to us! We’re walking on air!
All we are and have we owe to God,
Holy God of Israel, our King!
Can others look at you and say that you know the passwords of praise?
Are you so delighted that you could dance all day long?
Are you having trouble keeping quiet?
Has God’s vibrant beauty gotten inside you?
Are you walking on air?
The truth is dear friends, this is how we should live every day.
Today is special, yes, but not because it’s February 29th.
We don’t need a February 29th, or a New Year’s Day or a birthday to be joyful. We can live vibrant, full lives. Every. Single. Day.
Every day should be a reason to celebrate!
If you need a little extra encouragement, try this. Take five minutes out of your day. Just five. Pause for a moment. And breathe. That same breath, is from God Almighty.
Now give God thanks, today.
Thank Him for your blessings, seen and unseen, today.
Praise Him for what He’s doing in your life, today. (Even when you don’t understand it).
Tell Him how much you love Him, today!
He deserves all the honour and glory, today and everyday.
Wishing you blessings in abundance, today!

You’re right, Michelle — that one ordinary day has forever changed my life. I’m so glad that God knew best and worked out all the details in an amazing, unforgettable way. He continues to take our small and makes them big, our mundane and makes them shine. He is amazing!
Hope to see you again soon — at your place or mine. 🙂
Blessings!
