I love to spread holiday cheer. For me, it’s all about that Christmas spirit.
And there’s no easier way to do so than with Christmas cards.
But I can almost hear you moaning from the other side of the screen.
The thought of writing and sending Christmas cards might make you want to squirm in your seat.
I don’t want to add another thing to my holiday to-do list either, but trust me when I tell you, it’s not as hard as you think.
In fact, I’m going to share with you a few ways to make your Christmas card experience faster, easier and fun.
While this post has been sponsored by Basic Invite, the views and opinions are all my own. Please know that I only share products and resources that I love and trust, and which I believe will benefit you. See my full disclosure policy here.
But before I jump in, let’s look at why Christmas cards.
The reason for the season
To begin with, sending Christmas cards is a great way to share the love of Christ.
For many, Christmas is just another holiday, but we as Christians get a chance to point others to Christ during this special time. Through a kind word of encouragement or show of appreciation we can remind our friends, neighbors and family members of the true reason for the season.
This very day in David’s town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord!” – Luke 2:11 GNT
Bringing friends together
Sending Christmas cards is also a great way to nurture your friendships.
If you’re thinking that no one sends Christmas cards any more, then you just found a good reason to do it. Imagine the delight when your friend receives a hand-written Christmas card from you. Finally, something in the mail that’s not a bill or an ad. You just made her trip to the mailbox worth every freezing minute.
Christmas Cards Made Simple
I reached out to the folks at Basic Invite because I recall how easy it was to get my personalized Christmas cards done with them. They’ve kindly sponsored this post so that you can experience their amazing customer service for yourself too.
As an island girl, I’m a bit partial to their tropical Christmas cards. Remember that family photo from your summer vacation when you finally got everyone looking at the camera? It will fit perfectly with this theme. Your friends will no doubt thank you for sending some sunshine and holiday cheer their way.
But if you haven’t heard about Basic Invite yet, here are a couple of things that make them stand out.
1) Find your favorite color
Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. Once you select a design you can change the color of each element on the card to over 180 different color options so you can make sure the card is exactly how you want it down to the littlest detail.
2) Try before you buy
This is my favorite feature! Not many websites allow customers the ability to order a printed sample of their actual invitation before purchasing but Basic Invite does. You can see exactly how your card will print as well as feel the paper quality before placing your final order.
3) Make an impressive first impression
Basic Invite is just as colorful with their envelopes as they are with their invitations and cards. Choose from over 40 different colors to make your card stand out even before it is opened. And I love that all their envelopes are peel and seal — no licking required.
4) It’s all about the bling
Okay, maybe not bling but definitely shine. Foil cards give that extra flair and here you can get your holiday cards in either gold, silver, or rose gold. Customers can choose flat or raised foil on all of Basic Invite’s foil designs.
So, how about those tips?

Oh, Marva I love getting and receiving cards. But I haven’t sent them in year. I am going to take a look at these. Thank you!
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
I hope you founds some you liked, Maree — I have so many favorites that it’s hard to choose.
Blessings to you, dear friend.
Kristi Woods says
I love Christmas cards too! There’s something about holding one in hand and studying the words and pictures. One of my friends even saves the cards and prays for each one the next year. Sounds like a great deal on these cards. Might have to click over there and check them out. 😉 Merry Christmas! #heartencouragementThursday
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
Kristi, I love that idea of using the Christmas cards as a prompt to pray for each person — what a thoughtful way to bless others, perhaps without them even knowing it.
I agree it’s a great deal from Basic Invite and I hope you check them out and find some cards you like.
Many blessings to you and yours this Advent season.
Linda Stoll says
Hi Marva … those envelopes are so gorgeous.
Sadly, my Christmas card days seem to be waning. Maybe every 2nd or 3rd year?
It’s just something I’ve had to say ‘no’ to in order to keep Advent a bit simpler.
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
I completely understand that, Linda and I think you’ve made a very wise choice. Some years all my plans don’t come together either and I just have to choose what I will let slide.
I love that you choose to focus on what matters most.
Blessings to you!

You’re welcome, Melanie. I always love a fun surprise in the mail.
Holiday blessings to you and your family this Advent season.
Rebecca Jones says
I love the hands on cards, I used to hang them up around the doors or put them on a mantle. I used to get them at after Christmas sales, one year I even bought them from an art store. Doing creative designs online is great but a handwritten one is becoming a lost art. It was so hot last year here in Georgia Marva, I could have used an island card. I can’t remember wearing shorts at Christmas. Have a merry one.
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
Rebecca, it seems like cards themselves are becoming a lost art! I love hand written ones too, and in fact what I choose to do is create a design for the outside but leave blank space inside to write my own words. Sometimes it’s a verse, or just a personalized inscription for my friend. It’s like having the best of both worlds.
And by the way, I wonder if you’ll be able to wear shorts this year? It doesn’t seem so. 🙂
Laurie says
Thank you for the tips. If only I would have done the whole “start early” thing earlier! 🙂
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
I know the feeling, Laurie, but you still have time. We won’t let perfection get in the way of spreading that holiday cheer! 🙂
Karen Woodall says
I love getting Christmas cards, but sadly that practice is all but gone. It used to be the one time of year that I would hear from old friends and family who are far away. Maybe there will be a resurgence of this practice to move against the tide of electronic only communication
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
It certainly isn’t as popular as it used to be and it makes it so much more special when someone takes the time to send a card. Imagine the surprise of your friends when they receive a card from you, Karen. It’s like an extra special touch — a hug in the mail. 🙂
Christmas blessings to you!
