Where do you turn for daily encouragement?
If that question leaves you stumped, then keep reading. Because there’s nothing like a daily dose of encouragement to get you through your day.
And since no two days are alike, we often need to find creative ways to spark some joy in our day. Here are three not-so-conventional ways I’ve found daily encouragement lately.
-
Be real
Deep down inside, we all want to feel connected. I’ve found that when I’m real with others about how I’m really doing it gives them an opportunity to encourage me. The truth is, when we admit that we’re sad, discouraged, don’t have it all together, falling apart at the seams – you fill in the blanks – it allows others to come alongside and whisper a word of encouragement.
-
Ask for help
This past weekend, as I updated a group of friends about my latest struggles, I realized that the words I used really weren’t serving me well. It was clear that I needed to think differently. And so, I asked.
It was more like quiet desperation, but I put it out there and specifically asked my friends to suggest a way for me to think more positively about my circumstances.
Their responses were refreshing.
So now, instead of ‘overwhelmed’ and ‘frustrated’, you’ll hear me say I’m a conqueror and an overcomer! All because I asked for help.
-
Turn to the Word
One of the best ways to light a fire under your day is to jump into the Word. Recently, after applying #1 and #2 above, some of my readers shared the following verses to encourage me. It worked! And I pray these scriptures encourage you too.
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands. He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Overcomer song by Mandisa (click to watch the video)
I can’t promise that you won’t shed a tear or two after watching this one. Umm…not that I would know anything about that. 🙂
Chrystal’s Chronicles podcast by Chrystal Evans Hurst
You can always get an encouraging word from Chrystal. Plus she’s so real and relatable, I love it!
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind audiobook by Joseph Murphy
This one’s got me thinking and rethinking the way I think. Our words and thoughts have power and we’d do well to use them wisely.

Hi Marva!!! Oh, how I miss you! You, my friend, are absolutely my number one mentor on being an “overcomer”! I’m so glad your thoughts were turned around and you are speaking the Truth of Christ! Speaking of the asking for help thing … I’m getting a little better, but I’m still far from being any good at all.
Love you much and am so glad you stopped by my little place in the blog world this week♥
Hugs,
Lori

Marva, asking for help has been a revelation for me. That has never been my strong suit. But over the last 2 years, I have found it not only to be an encouragement for me but also for those who I’ve asked for help as well. It seems that the other party feels empowered by the ability to be an encourager regardless of what my be going on with them in the moment. As the Word says…ALL things work together for the good of those who love Him. Thanks for this encouragement and reminder today!

Hi,
I get daily encouragement from my special time & reflection with the Lord in a chat together over a cuppa & in His Word. I never start a day without it! 🙂
You are most welcome to drop by with your favorite beverage & tasty treat for a time of reflection.

Thanks! You just reminded me that I have not read my scriptures yet. (And it is almost bed time!) I tend to forget if I don’t get it done early. It truly makes a difference in my day.

My husband is my best encourager, but I also find encouragement in the Word and from other bloggers. One other thing I do is I keep a rainy day file. It’s something I heard many years ago when I first started my biblical counseling career. The person said there will be many days when you feel discouraged, partly because people don’t always want to do the things they need to do biblically (in counseling) and because life, in general, can be discouraging at times. He said every time you get a thank you card or note of encouragement save it in a file. Then during those times when you need them, you can pull one or two out and read over them. Eventually, someone gave me a pretty box that sits on my bookcase and it’s filled with cards, letters, and notes. It can be such a blessing to go through them.

I’ve found that God’s Word has all the answers we seek, and is able to lift us out of every pit. Thanks for sharing, Marva. Blessings to you.

Isn’t God’s Word amazing? All our needs are met and then more!
By the way, Boma, I enjoyed visiting your site and reading your post today.
Blessings!

Yes, yes, yes! I love how you say that being real enables others to encourage you! What a blessing for both parties there! If we aren’t real we’re missing out on the support God provides for us AND cheating our tribe out of their God given mission to encourage us! Love it! Tweeted and Pinned! Blessings!
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
That is so true, Liz. I love how God meets the needs and desires of both the ‘encourager’ and the ‘encouraged’.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. And for spreading the shine and passing it on!
Wishing you blessings!

Love these tips, Marva! It’s so good to readjust our thinking according to the word and then we are encouraged.

I’m glad you liked them, Kelly. I’m amazed how much power my words and thoughts have and I’m glad that God is showing me how I can change in this area. My goal now is to replace those negative thoughts with the truth of God’s Word. I’m so glad for friends who encourage me with truth!
Blessings to you.
