Have you ever experienced a spiritual revival?
When I was a little girl, I would attend spiritual revival meetings with my mom. These week-long outdoor services were meant to draw souls closer to Christ.
It was the church’s way of going where the people were and attracting those who might not have otherwise found their way through the church door.
Aside from all the bells and whistles, the concept was simple. The whole point of the spiritual revival was to stir hearts and move worshipers into (closer) relationship with Christ.
Now that I’ve grown older and have made my own commitment to follow Christ, I appreciate the concept of a spiritual revival even more.
And the best part about it is that there’s no need to wait for an orchestrated event. You can experience a spiritual revival any time.
A spiritual revival isn’t just for ‘lost souls’ either. I’m convinced that Christians need spiritual revivals too.
The longer you’re a Christian, you’ll find that your heart has a way of getting weary (or is that just me?). That’s where a personal spiritual revival comes in. And for me, it always involves going back to the basics.
When I’ve lost my zeal, taken my eyes off of God, or my walk with Him feels dutiful, I know I need a revival.
If you’re thinking this doesn’t apply to you, let me ask you a few questions. Think you don’t need a spiritual revival? Let’s take a closer look.

You might need a Spiritual Revival if…
1. Everything (and everyone) gets under your skin
You know that saying ‘when mommy’s not happy, nobody’s happy?’ Oftentimes, everyone else knows you need a spiritual revival before you do. They’ve been tip-toeing around you for way too long. It’s time for a revival, girlfriend!
2. Life is not fair
It really isn’t but we should have learned that lesson in pre-school. Ranting and raving, complaining and whining about how unfair life is really gets us nowhere. Instead, you probably need to take another route – make your way to a spiritual revival.
The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. – Psalm 19:7 NIV
3. Social media makes you cranky
We join Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat and all these others to keep up with our friends, stay connected and be entertained, right? But if scrolling through post after post leaves you feeling ‘less than’, it might not be working so well for you. When your social media feed gets you all in a bunch, do something about it.
4. You forget to smile
Hey friend, there’s a lot to be thankful for. When we forget this little spiritual truth we lose our joy. Things that made you smile have lost their appeal and life just seems humdrum. When you ‘try’ to be happy but your face is giving you away, you know what you need right? A spiritual revival!
5. Life is just too hard
Okay, I get it. Life is sometimes way harder than it should be. Even Jesus warned us that we’d have trouble, so we know it’s par for the course. But when you live on Hard Street all the time, it’s time for a spiritual revival.
Should I go on?
You get the sense that I could on, right? I really could. And that’s because I’ve experienced one or more of these (okay, maybe all of them) in the last few weeks. That’s why coming up with five signs is a breeze — because I’ve lived them.
It all came to a head this past weekend — when we were celebrating the resurrection no less! The need for a spiritual revival was no longer a nudge or a niggling feeling. It was as if God was saying, ‘Marva, you need to get out of that pit, now!’
So, I’ve heeded the warning instead of waiting until I crash and burn.
Spiritual Revival, here I come
I decided to create a spiritual revival all my own. No need to wait for a tent meeting or women’s day, or any of that stuff. My soul is longing to reconnect with God now.
So, I’ve started digging into the Word, lingering a little longer in my devotional time and finding my spark again. And I promise not to keep it to myself.
Next week, I’ll be sharing what I’ve been learning on this spiritual revival journey of mine. As a matter of fact, I decided to turn it into an email series that I can share with you. And I’m calling it Spring Forward Spiritually.
A spiritual revival can be a very personal thing, but if there’s anything that I glean that can inspire you, then I’m more than happy to pass it along.
For the next few days, between April 11-15, I’ll send a short email each morning with heart encouragement, a Spring Forward action to take, and a few resources to help you get unstuck.
Speaking of resources, I recently got the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle and I’ve been diving into all the faith-based topics.
The first one I started had to do with my One Word (yep, the same word I said I won’t be talking about). Let me tell you, this course is just what I needed. I’ll share that and some of my other favorite faith resources from the Bundle with you next week as well.
So, if you think you need a spiritual revival too (ahem, check the list above) then I’d be honoured for you to join me. Spring Forward Spiritually is a free 5-day email series from my heart to yours.
Are you with me?
Let’s get this spiritual revival on!
*UPDATE: Looks like you missed the series, Spring Forward Spiritually. That’s okay, you can contact me to be notified when it runs again.
How about you?
Which of these signs can you relate to? Don’t worry, you don’t have to mention all five. 🙂
Where do you turn when you feel that nudge that you need a spiritual pick-me-up?
Will you join me for Spring Forward Spiritually? I’d love to connect with you as we jump-start our hearts.
Wishing you blessings,

Oh, girl, you KNOW how bottomed out I was in November! Goodness, it took me a few months to climb out of that pit, but it was because I didn’t read the signs very well until I crashed and burned! I am so glad you are doing this course and series to encourage other women so they can avoid that kind of crash!
Love you!!!
Lori

I’m looking forward to this series, Marva! I could use a spiritual revival myself. 😉
And I love the reminder that we can have one right where we are! Praise God!

Just signed up. I could definitely use a spiritual revival. I find myself in and out of each of these categories over time.

The other day I got an awesome tidbit from my husband: he said the look I give people tends to make them feel dumb, which is weird he says because I’m one of the nicest people he knows.
At the time, I thought I just had one of those faces. You know? One of those that looks like something’s wrong if I’m not smiling.
Now…I think I might be guilty of your #4. 🙁
Great list and advice. I’ll have to remedy this ASAP.
I’m glad I found you at the Coffee for Your Heart linkup!
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
Don’t you just love that husbands have a way of picking up on little things we don’t see?
But, for sure, you’re definitely not alone with $4. 🙂
I’m glad we connected here, Ashley. And to think it was my first time at Coffee for Your Heart! I’ll be back and I look forward to ‘meeting’ you again soon.

It is easy to get weary in our well doing, I think all 5 applied to me at times. I see my FB picture and think, ” Hey, where is that girl, today? ” We all probably need a little revival everyday. Excellent reminder, Marva.
Marva | Sun Sparkle Shine says
Haha, Rebecca. Isn’t it funny when we don’t recognize ourselves? Glad I’m not the only one with all 5 — I was feeling a little desperate for a moment! 🙂
Blessings to you and thanks for dropping by.
